Why rankings matter

What is a SERP — and why do search rankings matter?

SERP just means Search Engine Results Page — the list Google shows when someone searches. Where your site sits on it is your ranking: #1, #2, #3, and so on.

It matters more than almost anything online — the top result gets most of the clicks, and hardly anyone reaches page 2. Climbing even a few spots can mean real extra visitors, with no ad spend.

Always know your ranking

Each keyword's exact position in Google, updated automatically every day.

Catch drops instantly

Slip from #3 to #9 and you'll see it within days, instead of quietly bleeding traffic for weeks.

Find easy wins

Keywords stuck at #11–15 are right on the edge of page 1; a small push often tips them over for a big jump.

Prove your SEO is working

Watch positions climb over weeks, so you know the effort is paying off.

See what really drives traffic

Rank plus impressions, clicks and click-through rate, so you know which keywords actually bring visitors.

Stay ahead of competitors

Spot the moment someone overtakes you.

Rankings are the scoreboard for getting found on Google — we put it in front of you, automatically, every day.

What you'll track

What does your keyword rank tracker show you every day?

Built for freelancers, creators, local businesses, trades and small websites who need an affordable way to track their Google rankings — without the cost and complexity of an enterprise SEO platform.

POSPOSITION

Your current position in Google

Your exact position in Google's organic search results for every keyword you track. The lower the number, the higher your ranking.

GEOCOUNTRY

Rankings for the country you choose

Google rankings differ by country, so you pick the market that matters — say Germany or the United States — and your positions are tracked there. Prefer the bigger picture? Leave it on Mixed to track across all countries combined. You can change it any time.

ΔCHANGE

Position changes, up or down

How far each keyword has moved compared with the week before — gains in green, declines in red, refreshed every day. Comparing week to week filters out day-to-day wobble, so when you see an arrow, it's a real move.

BEST

Your best position to date

The best position each keyword has held is recorded and retained — even if it later declines, you keep a permanent record of your progress.

TRAFFIC

How much traffic each ranking brings

Beyond your position, see how often you appear in Google (impressions), how many people click through to your site (clicks) and your click-through rate (CTR) — so you know which rankings actually bring visitors, not just which look good on paper.

LOGHISTORY

Your full ranking history

Each day's positions are recorded in a clear grid, so you can follow every keyword's ranking trend over weeks and months and measure the impact of your SEO work. Your site's daily clicks chart goes further still — it's backfilled from Google Search Console the moment your tracker goes live, giving you up to 16 months of traffic history from day one.

+DISCOVERY

New keywords found automatically

As soon as you begin ranking for a keyword you are not yet tracking, it is detected in your Google Search Console data and added automatically — so your keyword list expands as your visibility grows.

See it in action

What your Google rank tracker looks like.

Your dashboard shows exactly this — your keywords, your positions and the traffic they bring, updated every day.

What each column means

Keyword
A search term you want to rank for.
Position
Your average Google position for that keyword over the last 7 days, refreshed daily. Lower is better — 1 is the very top.
Change
How your position stands compared with about a week ago, refreshed daily. ▲ means you went up, ▼ means you dropped — and on your dashboard you can hover the pill to see the exact before-and-after.
Best
Your best position for that keyword since tracking began. Positions are 7-day averages, so this is the best you've genuinely held — not a one-day fluke. When you're currently at your best, the cell is highlighted in soft purple.
Impressions
How many times your site appeared in Google's results for that keyword, over the last 7 days.
Clicks
How many people actually clicked through to your site from those results, over the last 7 days.
CTR
Click-through rate — the share of impressions that became clicks, over the same 7 days. A higher CTR means your listing is compelling.

Which country? Your rankings are tracked in the country you chose at signup — or across all countries combined if you left it on Mixed. The heading at the top of your dashboard shows which.

Reading the position number: positions 1–10 are page 1, 11–20 are page 2, 21–30 are page 3, and so on — so position 8 is on page 1, while position 48 is page 5. Most clicks go to page 1, so reaching the top 10 is the goal.

Want to dig into the raw numbers? You can also export your data as a CSV or Excel file straight from your dashboard and open it in your own spreadsheet app to filter or sort — this never changes the live data.

Where the clicks go

Why page 1 gets almost all the clicks.

Not all rank gains are equal. On Google, the clicks are stacked at the very top — the top few results collect around two-thirds of all clicks, and by page 2 there's almost nothing left. So moving up two spots near the top is worth far more than jumping twenty spots further down.

That's what a climb like the one above shows: a keyword moving into the top 3, where the traffic actually is. And it's why daily tracking earns its keep — you see a climb like this within days, instead of noticing weeks later in your analytics.

Common questions

Rank tracking questions, answered.

How can I track where my website ranks on Google?

You choose the keywords that matter to your business and grant the tracker view-only access to your Google Search Console. It checks your position for each keyword every day and presents everything in your private dashboard — your positions, changes and full history — which you can open at any time, on phone or computer.

What is the difference between a rank tracker and a rank checker?

There's no real difference — both check where your website appears in Google's results for the keywords you choose. A rank checker often means a one-off look, while a rank tracker records your position automatically over time. DailyRankTracking does the tracking kind: it checks your keywords every day and keeps the full history.

How often does a rank tracker check my Google rankings?

DailyRankTracking checks your Google rankings once every day, automatically. You don't have to check anything yourself — DailyRankTracking pulls your latest position for every keyword each day and records it, building a complete history of how your Google rankings rise and fall over time.

What's the difference between Google Search Console and a rank tracker?

Google Search Console is Google's own free tool that holds your raw ranking data, but it's awkward to read day to day and keeps no tidy daily history. A rank tracker like DailyRankTracking reads that same data through view-only access and turns it into a clear dashboard — your chosen keywords, your daily position and a day-by-day record you can actually follow. Same source, far easier to use.

Can I track my keyword position in the SERP every day?

Yes — DailyRankTracking records your position in the SERP for every keyword you choose, once a day, every day. It comes straight from your Google Search Console data, so it's your real SERP position, not an estimate.

Do you track my whole domain and subdomains, or just one page?

It follows how your site is set up in Google Search Console, because that's where the data comes from. If you verified a Domain property (the whole domain), your tracking covers the entire domain — your main site, www, and any subdomains like blog. or shop. — and for each keyword it reports whichever of your pages ranks best. If you verified a URL-prefix property (a single address like https://yoursite.com/), it covers only that exact site, not separate subdomains. If you want everything including subdomains tracked, choose the Domain property when you connect Search Console.

Which country are my Google rankings tracked in?

By default your rankings are tracked across all countries combined. When you sign up you can pick a target country instead — say Germany or the United States — and your rankings are then tracked there, because the same keyword can rank very differently from one country to the next. It all comes from your Google Search Console data, so whichever you choose, it's your real position in that market, not an estimate. Want to change it later? Just ask us and we'll switch it over.

How soon do I get my rank tracker after I subscribe?

Within about 15 minutes, usually sooner. As soon as you subscribe we set up your private rank tracker and email you the link, along with the one step to connect your Google Search Console. If you don't see the email, check your spam folder. Your Google rankings then refresh automatically every day between about 05:00 and 07:00 UTC.

Do I have to think of every keyword myself?

No — you don't have to name any keywords yourself. The tracker finds the keywords your site ranks for automatically, and you can also add specific ones you care about. Your keyword list expands on its own, up to 10,000 keywords.

What is the cheapest way to track my Google rankings?

One of the cheapest ways is a focused tool like DailyRankTracking: €14.99 a month (excl. VAT), no contract. It does the one thing you check most — your daily keyword positions — without the price or complexity of an enterprise SEO platform, which makes it well suited to freelancers, creators and small businesses.

How much does it cost to track my keyword rankings?

It costs €14.99 per month (excl. VAT), with a free 7-day trial and everything included. There is no setup fee, and you can cancel at any time from your Freemius account portal.

Do I need to install any software to check my ranking?

No — your dashboard opens in any web browser on your phone or computer, with nothing to download or install. If you ever want the raw numbers, you can export your data as a CSV or Excel file straight from your dashboard.

Where does the ranking data come from — is it accurate?

It comes directly from Google Search Console — the same ranking data Google provides to site owners. This is your actual position in Google, not an estimate, which is why read-only access to your Search Console is required.

What time is my tracker updated each day?

Once a day, between about 05:00 and 07:00 UTC — so your newest positions are already in when you check each morning. Google's own data runs a day or two behind, which is normal, and each position is a rolling 7-day average, so it stays steady rather than swinging on a single unusual day.

Is it safe to give access to my Google Search Console?

Yes — you add a single email address as a Restricted, view-only user, so the tracker can read your ranking data and nothing else. It cannot change or delete anything on your site — and you can remove the access at any time.

My website is new — can I still track my rankings?

Yes — DailyRankTracking shows the keywords you already rank for and adds more as your rankings improve. New websites begin with limited data, which is normal, and specific, local keywords typically appear first.

Can I track keywords I don't rank for yet?

It shows your position for keywords your site already appears for in Google, because it reads your real Search Console data. If you don't appear for a keyword yet, there's no position to show — but the moment you start ranking for it, it's picked up and added automatically. These are your genuine positions, not scraped estimates.

Can I see my ranking history from before I subscribed?

Keyword position history begins on the day your tracker is set up and adds a new entry every day from then on — it does not include positions from before you signed up. Your site's traffic is different: the moment your tracker goes live, its daily clicks are backfilled straight from Google Search Console, so your clicks chart starts with up to 16 months of history on day one.

Can I check my Google rankings on my phone?

Yes — your dashboard is built to work in a phone browser, so your positions, changes and full history are all there. You can also export your data as a CSV or Excel file if you prefer.

How do I cancel, and will I be charged again?

You can cancel at any time from your Freemius customer account portal, so it remains fully in your control — no contract, no lock-in. You will not be charged again. You keep your tracker for the remainder of the period already paid for, and it stops at the end of that period.

What happens to my tracker and data when I cancel?

When your paid period ends, your tracker is switched off and your dashboard closes. Your ranking history is kept safe, so if you ever come back, you pick up exactly where you left off. If you would like your own copy, you can export everything as a CSV or Excel file from your dashboard beforehand.

Can I track more than one website?

Each subscription covers one website. To track more than one website, take out a separate subscription for each one — every site then has its own tracker, its own keywords and its own private dashboard link.

Is there a limit to how many keywords I can track?

You can track up to 10,000 keywords per website. You don't add them by hand — the tracker automatically picks up the keywords your site ranks for in Google Search Console, up to that limit, and keeps your list up to date as your rankings change.
